"Roland Martin is at the forefront of most fishing innovations—either as the inventor, the angler who helped refine it, or a pro who quickly adapted its potential to the bass fishing scene."—Bassmaster
Roland Martin, the most successful bass fisherman in history in terms of tournaments won, is a prolific source of bass fishing wisdom and sure-fire bassing tips. Both practical and discursive, Martin not only discusses why bass strike, how to use live bait, plugs, and spinners, tricks for night fishing, and how to fish logs, weeds, rocks, and trees; he also recounts how he once fished five rods at once during a school feeding frenzy, and how fellow legend Bill Dance charmed him out of a spinnerbait and beat him with it in a tournament. Full of information and great stories, Roland Martin's 101 Bass-Catching Secrets is the best guide available to help fishermen land more bass, and a revealing look at the exciting world of professional fishing.

5Follow Success  Jul 12, 2010
I have read many bass fishing books, but this is the one that has helped me catch more fish. This book is full of very practical and specific information that you can apply instantly. The book is separated by topic so you can search quickly find information that meets your particular needs. For example, Roland explains the different types of strikes made by bass. This was new to me, I now have changed how I cast at certain times of the day.

Roland takes you through a number of stories about fishing. This threw me off at first, but as you read them - you can get a feel for the history of the sport. You learn about some of the early greats and how this sport as evolved. As for the timeliness of the information - no one has told the bass about this info so it continues to work just fine.

2Nothing new here...  May 03, 2009
I really wanted to like this book because I grew up watching Roland Martin. Don't get me wrong -- it does contain some useful information, but like the pictures, it's 20+ years old. If you want to learn more about MODERN tackle and techniques, this is NOT the book for you.

5An Education on Bass Fishing  Mar 12, 2009
This is an education on bass fishing.

I find myself returning to this fishing book again and again. You won't find 10 pages on tying knots, neither will you find tricks you'll forget when on the water.

What you will find are 101 solid topics on fishing from a teacher. Roland isn't trying to impress you, he's just teaching you in a well written book how to fish certain situations and certain lures. For example, there are 45 pages on spinnerbaits, and its good reading.

This is the book I reach for when I think about my favorite lake and how I will fish it anew in springtime with new techniques or refined methods.

Purchase the book. Add it to your fishing library.

5More that I expected  Mar 09, 2009
I was expecting much less than what i got with this book. I thought it would be more like Bill Dance's 101 bass fishing secrets, but it is written more like a bass fishing encyclopedia. Good buy.

5The Best of The Best!  Jan 23, 2009
I will not talk about all of the information on bass fishing knowledge that is in this book, because we already know that! I want to talk about the history in this book of the early days of B.A.S.S. and other pro's and big named people in the sport. I really liked the story of how Bill Dance helped Roland hook and land his wife, that was a funny story. You will enjoy this book in so many ways!
