Sharpens Very Well- But Not Perfect Jul 18, 2010 So far, this sharpener set has worked perfectly on every kitchen knife that I have tried to sharpen. However, I give it 4 stars because it can take a little while to get a sharp edge- even for knives that don't seem so dull. Now, that is to put a razor sharp edge on them, and I am still learning the system. But if you want very sharp knives, try this sharpening system.
Hand Cramps. Jul 02, 2010 The clamp is hard to use, but gets the job done. Hair shaving sharp. A side note, the kit comes in a red box, not blue like the picture.
Keeping it SHARP May 24, 2010 This is the second Lansky "KIT" I have purchased. The first is the regular sharpening "stones" , and this one is the "diamond" sharpening stones. ALthough it does work a little faster than the regular stones by Lansky, it gives the same "edge", in just a little shorter time. I am pleased with the kit, but might advise new-commers to go for the regular Lansky stones.
It works Apr 25, 2010 Used this on a dull blade and got it shaving the hairs off my arm fairly quick. It is somewhat awkward, holding the clamp till you get the hang of it.
You have to know the angle of the bevel. I found the best way is to mark the edge with a sharpie and run it through once with no oil. Inspect and make adjustments if needed.
Best used for blades about 6" or smaller.

Not vey impressed would not recommend to anyone. Apr 02, 2010 I don't see what all to hype is about for this sharpener. I theory it looks and sound like the perfect knife sharpener. The way Lansky tells it this sharpener can give you the perfect edge on just about any knife. Well let's say that's true if you don't want to sharpen anything larger than a 3 inch pen knife (hunting, fillet and kitchen knifes are out). The clamping system shall we say is FAR from acceptable. There is a surface area approx 1" wide by 1/8" deep if that that can't hold anything over a 3" knife. As soon as you set it up which by the way requires you to have a third hand and make a few passes with the sharpening stone the knife falls out in your lap if you happen to be holding the clamp it in your hand because the stands and vises are too expensive. Bottom line get familiar with a good Arkansas stone and hand sharpen your knives you'll be much happier and it costs a whole lot less.
