5If You Could Only Have One Boating Book, this is the One  Feb 05, 2010
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take one CD with you, which one would you take and why? Years ago I used to listen to a program on the BBC that asked famous guests that question, only they said record, not CDs. Well I suppose I'd take Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" if I were in that fix. And if I were to go to sea on a cruising sailboat and could only take one book with me, it would have to be this excellent, well written book by Mr. Calder. It's big, heavy, expensive and if you need it, you'll be glad you have it and you'll think it's worth it's weight in gold.

5Boat Owners Mechanical and Electrical Manual: How to Maintain, Repair and Improve Your Boat's Essential Systemss  Jan 30, 2010
Calder provides a detailed, in depth discussion of electrical and mechanical systems found on modern small to medium cruising vessels both sail and power. This is not a book for those who are looking for a cursory overview. It is a text book for those who want to know the details of electrical and mechanical systems and are willing to put in the time to study. The book is exceptionally well written, clear and extensively illustrated. Also helpful, the author discusses the pros and cons of different approaches to configuring electrical and mechanical systems. Very helpful in sorting out the many claims and counter claims made by industry. If you want to be a knowledgeable expert, this is the book for you.

5Boatowners Mechanical and Electrical Manual  Dec 17, 2009
Very thorough manual although it is becoming somewhat dated due the the rapid advances in electronics.

5Just what my husband wanted!  Dec 17, 2009
Bought this for my husband for his birthday! He really wanted this book, so I was happy when I found it on Amazon.com! It shipped in a few days and arrived in perfect shape! Couldn't ask for more! I am sure it will come in very handy when we use our boat next summer!

5Excellent reference.  Nov 04, 2009
Although emphasis is marine the chapters on electrical is detailed and found by me as very good for my RV and home power projects.
